I AM A FREE AMERICAN

i am an idealist. Pure and simple. I am #1genUS, and with respect to the politics of this land pretty much use #KeepItSimpleSmartie and #CommonLaw, the #DeclarationOfIndependence and #Constitution to inform my thoughts and go from there. I am reasonable and will listen to anything except lies and hate-based realities, and those I walk away from as being Stupid.

GO "W" !!!

"Bush Wants Newcomers to Learn English" (Yahoo! Headline News)

did you read that?

is this sounding more and more like the Third Reich or is it just me?

i mean, is anyone paying any attention at all on capital hill?

i guess one slap in the face has to go with the other ... first the Wall and then complete homogenization ...

the price on the citizenship is definitely negotiable.

Hey there Elaine.

I must say that I'm Spanish, I know English, but would definitely like to learn it should I had to, mainly because it's the only way to understand other human beings in America and other countries...

The fact is that those are no news: right now if you want to enter legally in America for studying, as my case is, you have to pass the TOEFL test, that requires an average level of English.

So I thinks it's settled. Cheers from Madrid!

miguel,
thanks for stopping by!

you are absolutely right ... logistically it makes perfect sense ... it just does not jive with the principles on which this country was founded.

after all, there was a HUGE debate when forming the country to make german the official language of the united states. the decision then, by our founding father's who were very close to the idea of what "america" was to become ... was, first and foremost freedom of the choice of the people without anyone dictating that they had to subscribe to any thing because some 'higher authority' told them so.

if you want to learn english ... GREAT! if you don't why should there be a law ... with freedom comes personal responsibility and, perhaps a part of that if you want to live in the usa is to learn english ... but it should be determined by the individual, not the government.

technically, if you want to be a Citizen of the corporation that is the United States, you have to follow these funky rules of our current government system. BUT, if you want to be a citizen of the united states of america under our founding father's declaration of independence and constitution (which is everything up to the 13th amendment), you just have to claim equal sovereignty ...

this is part of the reason why the fight is so hard to remember the confederate flag and the civil war ... while commerce was the essential issue of the separation of our nation at that time, some deeper issues were being played out as well ... some of which we are just now realizing; and some we may never.

p.s. i would consider a trade for my Citizenship (see my definition in my blog entry "What's For Sale", which i am finishing up tonight), for a place on the iberian peninsula, on or near the beach, with room to have a farm and horses.

peace & harmony,
