Reason No. 3 ... Illegal Wars
Reason No. 3 ... the U.S. government is violating our Constitution its principles in continuing the funding of the War in Afghanistan and Iraq and the sundry other places where we are instigating war against the people of the earth.
"To initiate a war of aggression, therefore, is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole." - Robert H. Jackson, chief prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials.
I wonder why if it was wrong for Hitler and Germany, why it isn't wrong for the United States and George Bush?

From Wikipedia ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_against_peace
A crime against peace, in international law, consists of starting or waging a war against the territorial integrity, political independence or sovereignty of a state, or in violation of international treaties, agreements or (legally binding) assurances. The definition of crimes against peace was first incorporated into the Nuremberg Principles and later included in the United Nations Charter.
No legal authority exists for the definition of the terms "territorial integrity", "political independence" and "sovereignty". However, their face value would seem to disclose the following:
a - The "territorial integrity" rule means that it is a crime of aggression to use armed force with intent permanently to deprive a state of any part or parts of its territory, not excluding territories for the foreign affairs of which it is responsible;
b - The "political independence" rule means that it is a crime of aggression to use armed force with intent to deprive a state of the entirety of one or more of the prerequisites of statehood, namely: defined territory, permanent population, constitutionally independent government and the means of conducting relations with other States;
c - The "sovereignty" rule means that it is a crime of aggression to use armed force with intent to overthrow the government of a state or to impede its freedom to act unhindered, as it sees fit, throughout its jurisdiction.
This definition of the crime of aggression belongs to jus cogens, which is supreme in the hierarchy of international law and, therefore, it cannot be modified by, or give way to, any rule of international law but one of the same rank. An arguable example is any rule imposing a conflicting obligation to prevent, interdict or vindicate crimes which also belong to jus cogens, namely aggression itself, crimes against humanity, genocide, war crimes, slavery, torture and piracy, so that a war waged consistent with the aim of repressing any of these crimes might not be illegal where the crime comes within the limit of proportionality relative to war and its characteristic effects.
i always loved reading encyclopedias ... they are just so logical sometimes.

The contrast is stark. Hitler murdered and ordered vile treatment of a race of people he sought to remove from the Earth and murdered well more than 6-8 million Jews while causing the war deaths of as many as 150.6 Million from 27 nations.
Bush and America's allies have freed fifty million people from oppression and tyranny since 2001. Helped to better secure hundreds of millions of innocent lives here and in Israel in the process. We have even gone so far as to suffer financially, diplomatically and through the loss of American and coalition lives to insure peace and stability through Democracy and freedom. You say freedom must be exercised to stay in shape. You are right, but what kind of evil self centered bigots would we be if we sat idly by enjoying the fruits of our freedom and allowed terrorists and enemies of peace to continue to slaughter innocence. If I have a criticism of the war it is that we are not able to do the same for other nations simultaneously. Because if we do not do it now while there is a quasi-willing leader in office, the suffering will continue.
To send money and food to people and rely on a corrupt and inept UN to protect them is not only folly but irresponsible on our behalf. We cannot expect these people to ever have true freedom without a Republic style Democracy. Until we remove the despotic regimes from power in oppressed nations we will only facilitate the problem not remedy it through socialist welfare.
To oppose the war is to oppose the giving of freedom to people who deserve and want it. When someone supports anti war propaganda they help to threaten the success of the mission and jeopardize the mission and our fellow American soldier's lives. To distribute and create propaganda against the war in fact facilitates those who hate freedom and hate you and I for having it and spreading it. Think about it.
Oh and what portion of land are we depriving the Afghan or Iraqi people of?
ken,
thanks for commenting. sorry if i hit a sore spot with you ... such a long defense that is based in ... propaganda mostly.
i believe the contrast is more gray than we may want to admit. some people though hitler was a good thing for several years, most in this nation-state included.
i believe we reap what we sow. if you see terrorism and threats coming your way ... you are sowing terrorism and threats. simple spiritual principles at work here ... cause and effect, karma, the golden rule, etc.
all i know is this ... i might be blonde and perhaps not the smartest cookie in the world, but if you give me the kabillion dollars we have spent and the 2.5 million soldiers that we have sent over there, i could have educated and empowered the iraqi and afghani people. yes, we could free them ... that may happen and will last until the next person assumes power with our help. but, if we taught them freedom, they would have it forever.
an empowered people can transform their government in their way and maintain their land and its resources. WE COULD HAVE DONE THAT -- we have the resources and intelligence to do that -- we just didn't make that choice. just like we could spend the money educating our youths, but instead, we build more prisons.
their land ... how many of their homes and cities and villages have we destroyed? we have completely stolen, bombed and/or contaminated with our chemicals and depleted uranium their land. they cannot even have babies without deformities. so too, many of our soldiers cannot have babies without deformities.
does anyone still think we have freedom in this country?
executive order after executive order after executive order by this president has taken away nearly everything that every soldier fought and died for this nation -- especially those in the 1770's.
my thanks on this memorial day.
